Hailing from Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, DeCaro gained prominence as the guitarist and songwriter for the Canadian band Hot Hot Heat. He joined the group in 2001, bringing a distinctive guitar-driven sound that complemented their post-punk and new wave influences. DeCaro played a pivotal role in the band’s early success, contributing to albums such as Make Up the Breakdown (2002) and Elevator (2005).

After departing Hot Hot Heat in 2005, DeCaro became a member of the Montreal-based band Wolf Parade, where he served as a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. During his tenure, he contributed to albums including At Mount Zoomer (2008), Expo 86 (2010), and Cry Cry Cry (2017).  In addition to his work with established bands, DeCaro explored solo projects, forming the folk-rock group Johnny and the Moon, which released a self-titled album in 2006.

In late 2023, DeCaro reunited with Hot Hot Heat for a brief period, releasing the single “Shock Me.” However, the reunion concluded in early 2024.  Throughout his career, DeCaro has been recognized for his dynamic guitar work and contributions to the Canadian indie music landscape.
