Tony Turner is a Nanaimo-based singer-songwriter whose thoughtful, often humorous folk-pop songs blend social commentary with heartfelt storytelling. With a rich baritone voice and skilled acoustic guitar and harmonica work, he has been active in the Canadian folk scene since the early 1990s. Turner gained national attention in 2015 with his protest song “Harperman,” which went viral and earned him the Spirit of Folk award from Folk Alliance International.
His repertoire includes three albums of original compositions, including Love and Other Attractions, and his anthem “Circle of Song” was published in Rise Again, the sequel to the popular Rise Up Singing folk songbook.
Turner performs both solo and with the Tony Turner Trio, featuring Arlene Carson and Joe Spinelli, delivering engaging shows that mix original material with well-chosen tunes from past decades.
