Q BROOKE BACHAND is a musical wildfire, blending their Irish and Scottish roots, folk, and protest-ballad strength into a sound that hooks you – instantly. From the shores of Victoria, BC, to Montreal’s pulse, this nonbinary artist transforms life’s curveballs – including a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder – into compelling art. From house gigs to mainstages, Q’s fiddle rips, their lyrics land, and their presence resonates. “Music’s my truth,” Q says firmly, “my voice when the world pushes back.” And it carries – drawing stomping crowds from Kansas City to Orkney. At Celtic Colours, their set once had a tent cheering so loud it earned whispers of “Q’s moment”— proof of their magnetic pull.
Q’s ride began early, fiddling out of Victoria, BC alongside their brother as Qristina & Quinn Bachand. For over a decade, they toured globally, clinching major awards (Irish Music Awards) and 16 nominations (Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and more). Albums like Family (2011) — NPR’s “Celtic Connections gem”, Little Hinges (2015) turned heads, with Mojo magazine praising their “thrilling virtuosity.” They shared stages with Lunasa, Altan, The Battlefield Band, and Ashley MacIsaac (a 2019 Victoria sellout that still echoes today), with Q‘s fiddle always a blazing force. IN 2017, on the heels of earning a Masters in Traditional Irish Music Performance (University of Limerick), Q released their first solo offering, Linger, a solo fiddle record which garnered Roots Music Canada praise for “emotion and harmonies”.
