AARON MURRAY PROJECT – – Born and raised in the Acadian culture-rich reaches of Moncton, New Brunswick, Aaron witnessed the power of music to unite and entertain in family and social gatherings. Bluegrass, Old Time, Folk and Country influence Aaron’s all-originals play list; an homage to the back-home dance halls and kitchen parties from whence sprang his musicality.


BABE GURR BAND – – Award-winning recording artist Babe Gurr has been turning heads for years with her blend of roots/blues/pop/world. Her warm and sultry voice, intelligent lyrics, memorable melodies and savvy personality add up to pretty much everything you want to see on a stage. carry great words.


BOBS & LOLO – – Bobs & LoLo are dedicated to connecting kids to the natural world with music, movement and make-believe. Sharing musical stories that engage, inspire and educate, they teach kids to care about themselves, their neighbours and the planet.


BOMBOLESSÉ – – Bombolessé is a party group that gets thinkers dancing and dancers thinking. Their music sung in French, Portuguese, Spanish and Creole is an ode to joy while making people aware of the problems and inequities of our society. Their common ground is the love for Brazil and its origins.


CHRISTIE LENÉE – – Christie’s unique guitar work is often compared to visionaries like Michael Hedges, Bela Fleck, Andy McKee, and John Mayer; fusing folky/funky playfulness with pop/rock inspired songs and virtuosic guitar compositions. An extensive original repertoire of both vocal and instrumental music showcases her extensive musical background, with studies including classical, jazz, rock, blues, folk and flamenco.


CÓIG – – Còig is an exciting ensemble of East Coast musicians, and one of Cape Breton’s most captivating young bands. Each of Còig’s talented musicians have released their own successful solo albums, and have toured both at home and abroad before coming together as this exciting super group.


CRIKEY MOR – – Crikey Mor delivers a tightly arranged whirlwind of traditional Irish reels, jigs, polkas, and songs that will keep your spirit moving and your feet stomping. Starting out as a group of Irish traditional folk music lovers who gathered together to play Irish tunes every week, Crikey Mor is now gaining a well-earned reputation for bringing audiences to their feet with their interesting arrangements.


DAVID VEST – – Although he’s a Maple Blues Award winner who now lives in Canada, David is an authentic, Southern-bred boogie-woogie piano player, blues shouter and world-class entertainer. He still regales crowds with his authentic blues sound and stories about the fascinating life of a traveling bluesman.


Doug was a devotee of the bottleneck slide guitar until he picked up the Dobro. Whether the performance calls for rootsy Americana, new acoustic, or traditional blues with an African twist, Doug is an intuitive and gracious musical collaborator. RADOSLAV, born in Zagreb, Croatia has taken on an unusually broad musical spectrum and refined it into his distinctive piano style. His touring career has led him from the taverns of the upper Mississippi River to the castles of Italy, The Canary Islands, The Yup’ik villages of Alaska, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall.


DUSTIN BENTALL & the SMØKES – – The accolades that followed Dustin’s first two albums took his band across the Trans-Canada Highway down to Nashville, overseas to Denmark, Germany and Ireland. Dustin Bentall & the Smøkes tour relentlessly. Slogging it out in scattershot club gigs on both sides of the Atlantic – not to mention prime opening slots for the likes of John Prine, JJ Cale, Mother Mother, Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo, Matt Mays and Sam Roberts.


FALLBRIGADE – – Hailing from Victoria BC comes the folk/rock music of Fallbrigade. The band was founded by brother and sister duo Caleb Scott and Esther Jungclaus. Their music has a new twist of raw sound with deep lyrical weight and soaring heartfelt vocals.


FRED EAGLESMITH – – Fred comes by his exceptional musicality and lyrical command naturally and honestly. Fred has forged a distinctive legacy with his songs, recordings, and live performances. And he has done so as a fiercely independent and original artist through the sheer power of the music he creates. On stage Fred is a sharp raconteur between songs with tales and observations as keen and compelling as his songs.


GARY FJELLGAARD – – Raised on the farm on the Canadian prairies Juno award winning singer/songwriter Gary Fjellgaard is a champion of vanishing values and the frontier spirit. After forty years Gary is still able to make a living out on the road with a guitar and a song. With his finger style acoustic guitar, gentle vocals, and colorful stories, Gary takes his western roots music to the people with a rare sincerity.


GENEVIEVE & THE WILD SUNDAYS – – Soaring harmonies, catchy songs, and original folk-roots music: this is Genevieve and the Wild Sundays. These women bring a fusion flavour to a predominantly old-time sound, with a focus on three- and four-part harmonies. Laura and Kelly also add original compositions and take turns on lead.


HUDOST – – The music of HuDost, the neo folk world rock ensemble from Montreal and Nashville, weaves a seamless tapestry of sound that renders tears and laughter in listeners, cultivating that nameless longing that abides somewhere in all our hearts. Elegant atmospheric rock arrangements give the songs a broad, sweeping sound.


JESSICA STUART FEW – – Internationally touring indie folk jazz power trio, The Jessica Stuart Few has one of the freshest sounds around. The Few mix musicality, humour, creativity, rhythm, folk, and jazz into their songs with stunning three part harmonies onstage, the best of both folk and jazz.


KAT DANSER – – Kat Danser’s music navigates a paddle steamer from the muddy banks of the Mississippi Delta downriver toward a big ol’ full moon over New Orleans. Dubbed ‘Queen of the Swamp Blues’, this Edmonton-based guitar slinger, songsmith, and blazing vocalist, channels the spirit of roots, blues and gospel music pioneers.


MARTYN JOSEPH – – Martyn Joseph is a powerful singer and songwriter gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics. He’s a jaw dropping guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful show stopping voice, and has been called “The Welsh Springsteen.”


MARY MURPHY BAND – – Mary’s authenticity takes first generation immigrants home again, gifts those with Irish roots a taste of inheritance, and ushers those who wish they were a wee bit Irish, into an ephemeral union.  Her blending of wit and storytelling prove yet another way in which her audiences find themselves feeling personally connected and drawn into her world. Mary’s producer/guitarist, Paul Keim, brings vibrant rhythmic elements to Mary’s overall sound both live and in the studio.


MASIMBA MARIMBA – – Masimba Marimba is a local fun-loving community marimba band playing music that will bring you a joyful feeling. Its roots are in the lively, syncopated rhythms and soulful singing coming from traditional village life in Zimbabwe and southern Africa.


MATUTO – – Matuto’s songs can sway hips just as easily as spark insights. The band’s core members share a combined obsession with connecting the dots between Brazil, rural America, and creative reinterpretation of long-standing party-hearty forms.


PAUL GELLMAN – – Paul is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist based on Gabriola Island. He has written hundreds of songs in an eclectic range of styles combining rock, pop, jazz, blues, R & B and folk. Paul also has a music coaching practice, including music workshops for groups and individuals, a program of collaboration and learning.


ROY FORBES – – For over forty years now, Roy has been a prominent and critically acclaimed artist who has made enduring artistic contributions to the Canadian music scene as a performer, recording artist, songwriter, producer and broadcaster.


RUSSELL DECARLE – – After 35 years playing in the iconic country roots band Prairie Oyster, Russell continued his musical career as a solo artist. He wears his musical influences on his sleeve, as he loves paying tribute to tunes that have inspired and influenced him.


SHARI ULRICH – – Originally a California girl, Shari’s career through the Pied Pumkin, The Hometown Band, and on as a solo artist and multi-instrumentalist continues to inspire audiences. Shari also composes for documentary films and TV, and is a songwriting educator.


SHRED KELLY – – Since its inception, Shred Kelly have been re-defining what folk music means in Canada. Tim Newton, Sage McBride,  Jordan Vlasschaert, Ian Page-Shiner, and Ty West have amplified the traditional sound   of folk music with a more contemporary approach.


STANTON PARADIS – – Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis, are a duo that has survived life-threatening injuries to Simon. Not only are they playing some of their older material and interpreting some of their most beloved songs but also they are drawing on this latest life experience to create some exciting new work.


THE KONSORADOS – – Donna Konsorado is a Canadian singer songwriter and music promoter. Her roots in Western Canada stretch from her current home on Vancouver Island to the wide landscape of Saskatchewan.


TRINITUDE – – Merisa Donoghue, Emily Celeste and Les Tibbo (a.k.a. The Dirty Flannel Dawg) are known as The Trio with Attitude. Trinitude’s highly melodic and lyrically driven music crosses over into many different genres, but it can be best described as Celtic flavoured roots.


2015 Youth Performers


AMY MULOIN – no website – Amy is a singer/songwriter who grew up in Campbell River. She has been crafting original country folk tunes, with a hint of the blues for the past five years.


GEORGINA NICOLL – – Georgina is a singer-songwriter with a musical style that blends the emotions of pop music with the acoustic sounds of folk music. Growing up Georgina was immersed in Celtic music, folk songs and choral singing.


HANNAH & PAIGE – no website – Hannah Morton and Paige Amon have been friends for many years, and have gone to school together since kindergarten. They began singing together in 2014 when they put their voices together and enjoyed the harmony they created.


JESSICA BENINI – – Jessica is a singer-songwriter who began her journey as an acoustic guitarist at age 9. She is a captivating performer with her energetic personality, soulful melodies, rhythmic guitar and spontaneous harmonica solos. 


SAM CONNOLLY – no website – A childhood spent traveling the Vancouver Island coffeehouse circuit bred into this young man a deep love for live performance and storytelling. Stirring his folk-steeped upbringing into a hot mess of classic rock & roll created a singer/songwriter with a crafty wit and powerful pipes.
